What is the best question to ask a hypnotist before being hypnotized?
When I do my pre-talk, I try to answer the most common questions. Of course I ask if they have any questions. I don’t mind questions. I actively encourage them. Please please give me questions no matter how silly you think they might be!
When I interview a hypnotist, I honestly ask about their training. That’s the only question I asked my first professional hypnotist. That’s surprisingly rarely on a website. (It is on mine).
If it’s not clear, I would also ask if they had a preference of what school of hypnosis they follow. For example, most of my training is all over the place because I have to take what I can get. Most is Kappassian, which is not very common, but I am very interested in Erickson so I am trying to pick up as much from that end as possible since I *want* to be a neo-Ericksonian. I believe you can learn a lot about a person just from learning what school of hypnosis they tend to lean towards.
Leaning more Ericksonian would suggest a person who is more interested in a partnership with the client having much more control than they would otherwise. This also tends to indicate a therapist who believes more in resources that the client has innately. They are far from the traditional hypnotist!
