While being professionally hypnotized, do you see things as in a dream and understand what is happening as the session is going on?
This really depends on the client in my experience and they can even vary from session to session.
I’ve been hypnotized by professionals multiple times. I can’t even tell you how many times at this point. Student Hypnotists. Lay Hypnotists both NGH and completely uncertified. Stage Hypnotists. Professionals certified by SCEH. Professionals certified by ASCH. People certified by the National Board. I’ve been hypnotized by a few of Erickson’s direct students, some of which I didn’t even realized what was happening until I was already in a very comfortable trance state… I call that a “drive by” trance.
There has been no real consistency for me. When Bill O’Hanlon got me both times at the Erickson Congress, they were incredibly vivid trances. (I was never the target of his trances but I guess I trusted him so much that I just went along for the ride.) My regular hypnotist was his mentee, I had the range from seeing nothing to seeing really vivid over a period of a year. As far as I know, I have always known what was going on even if for whatever reason I have tuned the hypnotist out. Whatever I am seeing still reflects what they were trying to aim for.
