Hypnoteaching refers to the application of hypnosis in teaching and learning. It is defined as an alternative state of awareness in which learners can focus, concentrate and absorb various suggestions to attain specific educational outcomes. It has been determined that children are more susceptible to hypnotic suggestions than adults, which shows that the use of hypnosis in education can enhance knowledge acquisition among learners.
Hypnosis, combined with teaching, can enhance learners’ experiences and lead to increased performance. Hypnoteaching is beneficial to students as it helps them focus their minds. The technique can be used to enhance learners’ engagement during teaching and learning, hence enabling them to develop interest and confidence in various subjects.
A study conducted by Upu, Wen-Haw & Teng (2020) determined that Hypnoteaching models perform better than other conventional methods that do not apply hypnosis. Hypnoteaching models can help improve student’s motivation and interest in learning mathematics. The process can help students to increase their mathematical knowledge by providing a conducive environment that fosters effective learning and elicits positive reactions that result in high achievement. These findings are in line with past studies that also found a link between Hypnoteaching and high achievement.
Researchers have determined that, through Hypnoteaching, learners can stay focused on the learning process without being distracted by other thoughts. The teaching ensures meaningful learning by improving the learning environment and helping students attain higher learning experiences. The initial stages of the process allow for knowledge construction and help learners to formulate and review the knowledge acquired.
The final stages of the process offer learners enhanced learning experiences and increased comprehension as it involves reflection and internalization of the materials in the relaxed state. Some theorists have also posited that Hypnoteaching may induce competence in mathematics when learners are in the unconscious state. Some of the unique elements of this technique are its suggestions offered by its teaching models. Some of these models, such as the Erickson’s Hypnoteaching and Elman-HM models, use hypnotic suggestions that are not found in the conventional methods of teaching (Upu, Wen-Haw & Teng, 2020)
A similar study proved that Hypnoteaching can improve learners’ motor skills, which will then enhance their learning and mastery of various physical skills. The study found that Hypnoteaching increased students’ material gymnastics rhythm of motor skills. Based on the results, it was determined that Hypnoteaching can enhance students’ learning process of rhythmic gymnastics.
Motor skills play an essential role in a student’s learning process because they influence one’s learning of motor movement. Teachers must learn their students’ motor skills to group them based on their motor movement abilities during physical education. The researchers in this study conclude that teachers must adopt the right learning methodologies that would enhance learning and draw student’s interests in the learning process (Azhar, Aini & Aryanti, 2020).
Thus, hypnosis can be applied in teaching to enhance learners’ experiences and knowledge acquisition. Hypnoteaching uses various models based on different suggestions that increase learners’ experiences and enhances the learning process. These suggestions have positive effects that influence learners’ motivation towards learning.
