Will hypnosis cause me to have weird dreams?
There are many things that can influence dreams. Some say eating a big meal and others say some of the last things you hear before you drift off can also influence them. Really many of them seem to be dependent on the individual but that last one seems to be very common.
As we know, most hypnosis or what many people think of as the “trance experience” take place when your brain is in the alpha stage (relaxed but not dreaming, 8 – 15 Hz) as well as the theta stage (4 – 7 Hz) where most dreams occur.
Since I don’t generally work on people when they fall asleep naturally, I have very little one on one experience with that on if I have influenced someone’s dreams. I know I have had my dreams influenced but not necessarily by hypnotists, but by other things going on which they were trying to deal with. Some dreams were weird and some were normal.
No one really knows why we dream. One theory of dreams is that the subconscious is trying to vent out concerns or whatnot so based on that, it is certainly possible that the things I was working with the hypnotist on indirectly appeared in the dreams. It may have appeared anyway. However it is really hard to know specifically if he caused the dreams or not.
